DeviantArt | (3/4) "A few years ago, I was standing...

(3/4) "A few years ago, I was standing with my best friend in a crowd of 20,000 people. We were at Blizzcon, during the opening ceremonies. The feeling there is electric: this huge mass of people from all over the world, coming together via their shared passion. In all the excitement and hushed voices, what I had been working on was going to be announced. The lights dimmed, and the film showing our work started. My art came on the dozens of giant screens and people cheered. They didn't just cheer; they SCREAMED. I saw people hugging their friends, others jumping and pumping their fists. My whole body filled with butterflies, I felt the strangest, most proud tingle through me. But this wasn't the moment where I understood how TRULY impactful my work can be. I created a piece for my dad, as he was facing a vote to get into the baseball hall of fame. A lot of people contacted me telling me how touched they were, what huge fans they were of my dad. I was interviewed on the radio and through various sites, but this wasn't the moment where I understood how TRULY impactful my work can be. I made a comic about Chewbacca. It spread around the internet like crazy. Peter Mayhew himself tweeted it out. Millions of people viewed it. Person after person told me how it affected them. But that wasn't the moment where I understood how TRULY impactful my work can be. I painted a story about my son, Max. I posted it late at night, sitting alone in my basement. I got an email the next day from someone, who said: "I've never written to a perfect stranger over the internet, but I just had to thank you for sharing this. My wife and I have a son who is turning 3 next month, and he's not talking either, so you can imagine how close to home this is for us too. I just wanted to take a minute to thank you for using your extraordinary gift to share such a beautiful thing. I hope you and your family have a wonderful Christmas." Someone on the other side of the world received insight and comfort for their own life and experiences because of something I created and shared. THAT was the moment where I understood how TRULY impactful my work can be." —Murph3 http://murph3.deviantart.com/
